The prefecture of Chania (or Hania) is the westernmost of the four prefectures of the Greek Island of Crete. Its capital is the beautiful town of Chania where modern, Venetian, Turkish and traditional architecture are blended together in a perfect harmony, creating a unique and attractive picture. Various archaeological sites, villages, churches, caves, gorges and wonderful beaches are embellishing the charming prefecture of Chania.

In Chania you may also encounter a great number of traditional villages. One of them - and probably the most picturesque- is Douliana : a small, traditional and preserved as such Cretan village, also well-hidden from the massive, mainstream tourism of the island. The location of Douliana village on a hill with stunning natural surroundings and beautiful traditional architecture is impressive. Douliana is classified by the Greek Ministry of Culture as a typical Greek village of extraordinary natural beauty and its inhabitants are proud to preserve its style and architecture.

In the village you may find a few fine taverns and some places to do your every day basic shopping. A few km away there are some sea side villages (Kalives 4 km and Vamos 3 km) and should you need more then the town of Chania is accessible within half an hour by car. Sandy beaches are located 3 to 4 km away which you can even walk to (1/2 hour), since walking in the region is so pleasant.
